Material Collection
Trees, branches, and other
wood waste from land clearing and
sawmills are collected.

Grinding
The wood is fed into a primary
grinder or chipper, which breaks it
down into wood chips.

Screening
The chips pass through screens
to separate them into different sizes,
such as larger chips for erosion control or smaller chips for fine mulch.

Aging
The wood chips are often
piled and aged for several months.

Colouring
Some wood mulch is then
put through a colouring machine, where a non-toxic dye is mixed with water and applied to create black, brown, or red mulch.
